Designed to feel like you are dining in the home of a Shanghainese madame, Xixi Bistro takes the unusual concept of fusing Chinese and Italian cuisine and somehow makes it work. Actually, it more than works – it’s excellent. Try the steamed dumplings with pumpkin and ragu filling.

ARCHITECTURE
Natural History Museum
Designed by Perkins+Will, natural elements are obvious throughout the design of this 44,500sq m space (top image). Its overall shape is inspired by the nautilus shell and a central “cell wall” reflects the cellular structure of plants and animals.

Shanghai Tower
Completed in September 2015, this 632m super-tall skyscraper (pictured below) is China’s highest, and encompasses office, retail and leisure space, as well as a luxury hotel and conference centre. Designed by Gensler, the tower is actually made up of nine cylindrical buildings stacked on top of one another.

The Waterhouse at South Bund
Designed by the globally renowned local architecture practice Neri & Hu, The Waterhouse is a boutique hotel with 19 rooms, a modern European restaurant, and a rooftop bar with uninterrupted views of the Huangpu River.
