‘Celebrating the joy of living is mandatory in today’s world which is anxiety-inducing and sometimes threatening,’ says Fleur Delesalle, the Parisian interior and furniture designer when discussing her latest creations. ‘My specialty is to soften the angles and play with the colours that bring cheerfulness.’
Holding onto the joy found within the creative process itself, Delesalle’s furniture mirrors that softness with an organic elegance coming from the shapes and forms she designs. Since launching her agency 13 years ago, she has gone on to create a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with architects and designers to conceive bold and welcoming interiors for prestigious institutions and luxury commercial and residential settings. Simultaneously developing her own furniture collection, often designed with these interiors in mind, the designer states she is driven by an attention to detail magnified by craftsmanship.

Her latest creations include an extra-large mirror, an extra-long console and an extra-round pedestal table. Each with bold, generous, oversized forms, they reflect the design values and aesthetics the designer has become renowned for. ‘I am transported by the neo-classical and seventies styles,’ she reveals when discussing her inspirations. ‘It is a funny mix but probably is an approach to symmetry and geometry.’ Featuring vibrant yellows, rich greens and soft pinks, paired with marble and chrome, the collection seamlessly balances the beauty of heritage through a contemporary lens. Whimsical, yet grounded within her signature style, there certainly is a refreshing joy to be found within each piece.

Turning heads across the globe and recently receiving the AD x Land Rover Award for the Ultimate Chic and Elegance Prize, the designer began her creative journey studying at the Chelsea College of Art in London and ESAC Penninghen in Paris. Followed by six years working alongside acclaimed designer India Mahdavi, Delesalle’s work has been a constant evolution she says. ‘It follows an evolution mainly around the search for materials and discovery of talents in other fields, whose works are inspiring and complimentary to my own.’
While many of her furniture creations are inspired by the context of a project, she also explains how many emerge out of her own imagination and aspirations in a specific moment. ‘For example, when I was pregnant with twins, I designed round and interloping shapes, resulting in the Twins coffee tables.’

Partnering with artisans across Europe to handcraft each piece she designs, it is this open and collaborative approach that has allowed Delesalle’s creative journey to flourish. And in fostering the connection between makers and designers, she hopes to similarly connect with the users of her pieces, especially when residing in the spaces she creates. ‘I want my clients to find themselves in my imagination,’ she says, ‘and that they are happy and at peace in their environment.’
With the curvaceous, sculptural silhouettes radiating a welcome joy, it is a distinct reminder of how our spaces can nurture our wellbeing within an uncertain world. From playful colour palettes to soft and sensual forms, such interiors and artistic expressions can provide a longed-for comfort, helping us to celebrate the ‘joy of living’ that Delesalle is eager to remind us of.
