Tactile and cosy, bouclé has experienced a major resurgence in popularity in recent years. Dating back to the early 20th century, the fabric was initially created as a textile innovation and was developed using looped wool yarns.
It wasn’t long until renowned designers like Eero Saarinen and Florence Knoll adopted the fabric in their designs as bouclé’s versatility made it suitable for a wide range of applications. Saarinen, for instance, used it on his Womb Chair in 1948, which he made exclusively for Florence Knoll’s request.
Now, Danish design label Gubi has collaborated with Italian textile house Dedar to unveil Karakorum Stripe, a bold reinvention of the brand’s beloved Karakorum bouclé. Designed to balance visual drama with tactility, this latest addition adds a modern twist to a classic design.

Crafted from a blend of wool, viscose and cotton, Karakorum Stripe delivers an exquisitely soft hand and a looped texture reminiscent of premium astrakhan furs. Its fluffy feel and deep texture offer sensory appeal, adding warmth, depth and comfort to interiors.
Named after the ancient Mongol capital and Silk Road trading post, Karakorum remains rooted in textile tradition, yet this new striped version adds a contemporary twist. The unique pattern and colourway not only resist dirt and fading but accentuate the sculptural lines of Gubi’s furniture.
The bold, black-and-white stripes build on other much-loved Gubi icons. From the legendary Pacha Lounge Chair, originally designed by French furniture designer Pierre Paulin in 1975, to the Pacha Ottoman, the fabric adds a simple yet striking touch and a sense of structure.

Designed to bring comfort and add visual interest to interiors, Karakorum is also available without stripes. Used widely across Gubi’s collection, including GamFratesi’s Beetle Dining Chair and Space Copenhagen’s Stay Chair, Karakorum comes in seven warm, neutral shades.
Available in light and dark colours, bouclé’s timeless appeal finds fresh expression in Gubi’s and Dedar’s Karakorum Stripe. Bringing texture, subtle pattern and elegance to interiors without overwhelming spaces, Karakorum Stripe knows how to toe the line and look good doing it.
