“It’s a non-design really,” says Mark Holmes of the debut collection for Minimalux. The collection consists of 18 tabletop objects based around two basic shapes: the cube and the cylinder, serving as containers for pens, condiments and small trinkets.
Despite the pared-down design, the emphasis is on luxury. Created in solid brass, the pieces are finished in mirror-polished 24k gold and silver and have a reassuring heaviness.
It’s Holmes’ first project since he left his job as design director at Established & Sons, and the difference couldn’t be bigger. Whereas at Established he used to coordinate an army of designers, Minimalux is a one-man band with Holmes doing all the design himself. “It has been a very cleansing project,” he admits.
The complete collection will be exhibited during the Milan furniture fair and available at selected stockists in May.
