With collaborations like this, Danish brand &Tradition is swiftly making its name on the global design stage For a brand set up in 2010, &Tradition has learnt the ropes pretty quickly. It made its Milan debut at short notice this year, and the Danish design firm will soon mark its UK premier at Icon’s House of Culture during Clerkenwell Design Week 2016. &Tradition’s roster of designers speaks for itself, from classic maestros Arne Jacobsen and Verner Panton to contemporary designers Victor Vetterlein and Sofie Refer. Founder Martin Kornbek Hansen puts the brand’s quick rise down to its philosophy, tradition tied to innovation: ‘The idea was to create a brand that not only connects with old masters, but also works with new designers to define future classics.’ An alluring new colour pallette launched in Milan for Panton’s famous Flowerpot lamps is a perfect expression of this bridge between old and new. The round platform is suspended over an elongated tabletop &Tradition also teamed up with Jaime Hayon to launch the Palette desk at the Salone, following on from their success with his coffee tables in 2015. ‘It started out as a fun idea,’ Hansen says. ‘Although the range was inspired by the Memphis period, Hayon really made that aesthetic his own and created a product that perfectly fits the brand.’ Affirming the desk’s place in the collection, Hansen says: ‘Like the brand, the desk is an in-between product. It can be functional in a small office room or work as a piece of art in the home.’ |
