Heatherwick has been the recipient of the Prince Philip Designers Prize and the London Design Medal, and in 2004 became the youngest practitioner to be appointed a Royal Designer for Industry. At the heart of his Studio’s practice is a profound commitment to elegant, integrated design solutions and the absolute dedication to materials, research, prototyping, industrial collaboration, tactility, texture – and above all, extraordinary form-making. The exhibition brings together over 150 objects of inspiration and material samples, models, prototypes, full-scale fragments and finished pieces: from an original seed-tipped rod from the UK Pavilion Seed Cathedral at the Shanghai World Expo, to a detail of the new London double-decker bus at full-scale. Thomas Heatherwick: Making is published to coincide with the V&A exhibition. Prepared in close collaboration with the studio, this is the first comprehensive monograph on one of the world’s most innovative designers and presents an exhaustive overview of the studio’s entire history – over 140 projects, each fully illustrated. Heatherwick has personally written on each project, offering an unprecedented, in-depth and behind-the-scenes perspective that reveals the creative, design and manufacturing processes behind his genius. The book features images selected from Heatherwick’s personal and studio archives, many published for the first time Find out more at www.vam.ac.uk/heatherwick credit (c) Steve Speller Terms and Conditions: By registering for this competition you are bound to the following rules.
