Calvo table by Lee Kirkbride for SCP
SCP introduced several new releases by Donna Wilson and Michael Marriott, but this one-legged table by in-house designer Lee Kirkbride was the really outstanding piece. The tilted stem on a three-point base makes it an incredibly light construction which, cleverly, can be pushed closer over sofas or arm chairs – good for those sloppy TV dinners.
Air stool by Hector Serrano for Gandia Blasco
Unusually straight for Hector Serrano, this rotation moulded stool comes in black and white polythene. Although the design is a little inelegant, the stool is very light thanks to the cut-out in the middle.
Ruché by Inga Sempé for Ligne Roset
This sofa by Paris-based Inga Sempé is a far cry from the upholstered, legless model she made for Ligne Roset three years ago. Lifted off the ground by an elegant birch frame, Ruché would suit people who are paranoid about the dust accumulating underneath their couch. It might look a bit strict, the quilted seat and backrest offers a really cosy berth. “I wanted it to look like somebody had just thrown a blanket over the frame,” says Sempé of the design.
CHEST by Normal Studio for Toolix
Normal Studio is one of Philippe Starck’s ten French designers who will shape the next century, selected for Maison & Objet. Like the studio’s name suggests, it loves everything plain and normal. This chest made out of Toolix’s material of choice, sheet metal, looks a bit like it should contain a soldier’s fatigues.
Sch lamp by D.Lab
We spotted Singaporean design brand D.Lab’s Objects Around The Tablescape in Milan last year, but at Maison & Objet it presented a new collection of bigger tabletop pieces. The Sch lamp is quite humorous in its discretion. It looks a bit like it doesn’t want to impose its light too much.
