Patrick Lynch, Architect, london

The time for manifestos is past. For 200 years people have been using them as an excuse to fuck the planet up for money. Luther’s Wittenburg address can be seen as the original moment when individualism and the worship of money – or its euphemism, “progress”, disrupted the relationships between people and their places, and tradition and continuity. From then on we’ve had a long line of anally retentive technocrats boasting about the future, their materialist utopias, the triumph of science and the necessary in built obsolescence of design. Design is dead – long live architecture!
