Architect Je Ahn talks about his practice’s installation in Clerkenwell that celebrated the various makers of the area
Icon met up with Je Ahn, director at architecture practice Studio Weave, during Clerkenwell Design Week at the firm’s installation at St John’s Square.
“Smith” paid homage to the Clerkenwell tradition of making. Over the three days, this stylised factory with a sawtooth roof showcased the creative use of tools and equipment and how they could be applied to materials for product-making.
Contemporary craftsmen and smiths – including letterpress printers Harrington & Squires, 3D-printing specialist Hobs and charity and educational body the Goldsmiths’ Centre – ran workshops at the structure.
