Icon 126: Music
This month we went to Tokyo to visit the Yamaha music factory, where the latest instruments roll off the assembly line; we travelled to Montreal to meet Moment Factory, who put on spectacular architectural light shows for the likes of Madonna and Jay-Z; we got rare access to Google Creative Lab in New York to interview Alexander Chen, a specialist in interactive musical visualisations; and in Marseille we took a tour of a former granary that has been adapted into one of the most unusual concert halls in Europe.
Up front there’s: Anish Kapoor’s travelling concert hall, Snøhetta’s Maggie’s Centre in Aberdeen, a summerhouse near Stockholm, Rotor at the Oslo Architecture Triennale, our highlights from London Design Festival and 100% Design, and Zaha Hadid at the Serpentine.
Plus: 32 pages of the latest British designs in this month’s design report, including an interview with Doshi Levien and a look at what the future holds for Established & Sons.
In Review: Max Gill’s fantastical maps, concrete utopias in postwar Britain, Jeremy Deller on work since the Industrial Revolution, and the Lisbon Triennale.
