Le Corbusier, Zaha Hadid and Oscar Niemeyer are among the architects featured as silhouettes in the graphic designer’s latest illustrations Graphic designer and architect Federico Babina’s latest series of illustrations depicts the silhouettes of architects such as Le Corbusier, Zaha Hadid and Oscar Niemeyer framed by windows from buildings they have designed. Archiwindow, a series of 25 images, follows Babina’s previous illustrations with an architectural theme, such as Artistect, in which he drew buildings by famous architects in the style of prominent artists. In the latest series, Zaha Hadid is pictured within a parallelogram window from the Issam Fares Institute in Beirut; Mies van der Rohe is smoking a pipe in his German pavilion in Barcelona; Charles and Ray Eames are standing together in the window of their own home in Los Angeles; and Norman Foster is in the Gherkin. “Windows are the eyes of architecture,” Babina says. “They invite us to enter the landscape and are the cracks through which to spy on architecture. I wanted to spy as a voyeur the architectural life that is hidden behind a window – observe the architects and their languages, as [if] observing from a keyhole.” |
