Stadt des Kindes: On A Failed Utopia

Architect Anton Schweighofer’s Stadt des Kindes (1974) embodied Vienna’s shift towards a welfare state. The utopian complex’s public access to swimming pools, gyms and workshops led to the project becoming a model political example; however it closed in 2002. Curator Monika Platzer combines critiques from former residents with archival artefacts, exploring the ambivalent relationship between architecture and social practice.
