Ai Weiwei

This blockbuster retrospective collects together some of Ai’s most important works, dating from 1993, when he returned to China from the US, right up to the present day, and sees him draw on first-hand experience to comment on creative freedom, censorship and human rights in his native country. Ai employs traditional materials and interventions with historic objects throughout his work, including neolithic vases and Qing dynasty architectural components and furniture, creating new objects that challenge conventions of value and authenticity in modern-day China.
