Anselm Kiefer

In the first retrospective of honorary Royal Academician Anselm Kiefer, work drawn from across the artist's 40-year career is presented alongside new painting, sculpture and an installation in the RA courtyard. Kiefer's work considers the darkness of German history and the role of the artist in confronting collective memory, human experience and spirituality. Among the works on show is a series of large-scale architectural paintings – To the Unknown Painter (1983) – that depict the buildings of Albert Speer, Adolf Hitler's architect.
