Ivan Chermayeff: Cut and Paste

Cut and Paste fuses together the personal and commercial oeuvre of Ivan Chermayeff, founder of Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv, the graphic design firm that created the instantly recognisable branding of Pan American and MoMA in the 1950s and 1960s, as well as the experimental typography book Watching Words Move. Over 80 collages, posters, illustrations and book designs, as well corporate identity work, are on show. In the background are three generations of the Chermayeff family – Ivan’s father, Serge, was co-architect of the modernist De La Warr Pavillion, and his sons Sam and Maro designed and contributed to the exhibition.
