Anxiety Arts Festival

A London-wide festival curated by the Mental Health Foundation explores the way anxiety and art interact. Venues such as the Barbican, National Portrait Gallery, Freud Museum and Dulwich Picture Gallery will host a programme of visual art, music, dance, theatre and film throughout June, bringing artists together with mental health professionals and academics to examine the creative power of anxiety. Film screening will include classic tension-builders such as Alfred Hitchcock’s The Lodger and Andrei Tarkovsky’s Solaris as well as newer works looking at issues such as post-traumatic stress disorder and social anxiety. Works by established contemporary artists such as Eva Kotatkova, Lawrence Abu Hamdan and David Lamelas can be seen alongside new commissions that explore the boundaries between sanity and insanity.
