Designing for Disaster

Designing for Disaster examines the evolving discipline of disaster mitigation and how planners and designers can work with natural systems to create more disaster-resilient communities. Exhibits and multimedia installations will explore historic responses to catastrophes such as earthquakes, hurricanes and tsunamis, as well as showing exemplar designs for housing, hospitals, schools and public transport. With 112 events declared as natural disasters in the US in 2012, the focus is on the domestic front, but many of the solutions are applicable the world over.
