Launching in Milan next week, the French brothers’ latest furniture collection – Belleville – is inspired by an ultralight serif font When Vitra asked Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec to design a versatile stacking chair, the French brothers responded with a slim, black plastic structure inspired by the appearance of an ultra-light serif font. Launching at Milan Furniture Fair next week, the chair’s shell and frame are constructed separately so it can be strong while remaining slim. Accompanying it is an armchair and two tables, with a similar light profile. The chairs can be finished in plastic, wood, fabric or leather. “Its design is silent enough for historic spaces, but it also has enough beauty and presence to fill a boring white space,” Ronan Bouroullec told Icon. “It has a certain type of elegance that is not about a wow effect.” The complete Belleville collection, including a chair, an armchair and two tables |
