Back for its sixth edition, the three-day festival introduces new spaces for 2015, as well as expanding its key exhibitions, site-specific installations and collaborations with more than 60 partner showrooms
Clerkenwell Design Week returns for its sixth edition from 19–21 May, with additions to its four main exhibitions, showroom collaborations and commissioned installations.
Located in the Farmiloe Building, Design Factory will showcase a hand-picked selection of industry stalwarts and top design brands including, for the first time, Thonet. It will also host a series of debates focusing on current industry issues, with speakers including Raw Edges, Michael Young and Patrizia Moroso.
Platform, at the subterranean House of Detention, showcases up-and-coming design talent from the UK and beyond, while Additions, launched last year, returns to the Crypt on the Green at St James Church, providing an impressive backdrop for smaller design pieces. Detail, at the Order of St John, is the festival’s platform for high-end decorative products.
CDW’s showroom partners programme is an effective demonstration of the depth of the district’s commercial output. For 2015, Danish manufacturer Carl Hansen & Son will be opening its first London showroom during CDW, as will storage specialist USM, while first-time participant Moroso takes the opportunity to debut its new collections in the UK, including a collaboration with architect David Adjaye (watch out for Adjaye in conversation with Patrizia Moroso during the festival).
Fringe – an open-studio programme for the area’s designers, architects and creatives – has been beefed up this year, not least with the introduction of Icon’s own House of Culture, which will involve a programme of events, talks and displays based at The Old Sessions House on Clerkenwell Green.
