Cape Town, South Africa, home of Design Indaba.

The speakers have been announced this year's Design Indaba conference in sunny Cape Town, South Africa. The three-day event has cultivated a reputation for being uniquely creative, bringing together designers from a vast range of disciplines and backgrounds.

This year's speakers include design veteran Alberto Alessi, Dror Benshetrit, multidisciplinary designer and creator of the Tron armchair (Icon 092), "typographic experimentalist" Oded Ezer, creative product designer Jens Martin Skibsted, Bibliothèque, the London based design consultancy behind our passport rethink (Icon 090), and Dutch design superstar Maarten Baas.

As usual there'll be a strong African contingent of speakers, focusing on the shape of things to come for the country. Architect Francis Kéré (who inspired us in Icon 084 with his education projects in Gando) is speaking and branding consultants &Union and local marketing visionaries Daddy's World will lead a session on African entrepreneurs. Laduma Ngxokolo, who makes colourful knitwear inspired by traditional Xhosa beadwork, will speak as part of a Pecha Kucha session.

Alongside the conference, there'll be seminars given by trend forecaster Li Edelkoort, the Design Indaba Expo and a film festival. The real celebration gets under way with a party on 24 February, which this year is open to the public. And look out for our coverage of the Indaba in Icon 095, out in April.
