Camper store by TAF 21.12.09

Sweden's first Camper store has opened in Malmö, designed by TAF. The inspiration for the design came from ice cream and hundreds-and-thousands.

The unlikely source of inspiration has been used to create tables, stools and a cash desk in solid birch with legs and cross bars shaped like ice cream sticks, stained in solid pastel colours. The rest of the store is white with vanilla-coloured rubber curtains lining the walls, hiding the shop stock. The rubber curtains are a sly reference to melting ice cream.

The store is yet another study in making the banal interesting, a quality that has shaped much of the Swedish duo's work. Gabriella Gustafson and Mattias Ståhlbom make meticulous miniature models of all their projects and this time around it was easy to find the raw material even though it did mean eating a lot of ice cream.
