Clerkenwell Design Week kicks off next week with a programme of talks, exhibitions, installations, workshops and parties. Here is Icon's pick

Talk: Architects and their insatiable desire to design furniture

This panel discussion aims to explore a number of furniture projects initiated by architects. Sir Nicholas Grimshaw and Cas Zdanius, Grimshaw's head of industrial design, reflect on how their approach differs when tackling furniture commissions, such as the 1,600 seats the practice designed for New York's EMPAC Auditorium (pictured above). The pair are joined by Kurt Wallner of Poltrona Frau and Cassina (who will look at some of the recent collaborations between the two companies) and product designer Theo Williams.

Tuesday, 19 May, 4.30pm. Part of Conversations at Clerkenwell at Design Factory, the Farmiloe Building EC1M 4AY

Walk: Hidden Histories
