Schumacher has worked alongside Zaha Hadid since 1988, assisting with her first built projects, and is the chief proponent and theorist of parametricism. He considers it "the great new style after modernism". Such dynamic, organic fluidity, he writes, should infuse "all design tasks from urbanism to the level of tectonic detail, interior furnishings and the world of products".
