Icon asked a dozen experts and practitioners to nominate the people they think are, in some way, shaping the future. The resulting list of global talent is a snapshot that shows how young designers and architects are pushing the boundaries of their disciplines and trying to change the world From fashion and furniture to interiors and urban regeneration, Superuse Studios is dedicated to the re-use and transformation of existing resources. “We specialise in designing and building projects that are transforming our wasteful society into a sustainable society,” says co founder Césare Peeren. The studio’s work responds to a world with a growing population and limited resources and it develops tools to “superuse” the resources of urban eco systems. “For instance, renovating inefficient empty office blocks to create low-energy buildings by making use of wasted windows to add a climate façade on the south side, adding an urban farm on its roof and changing its inner structure in a way that is capable of housing a mixed programme where all inhabitants can make use of each others’ services,” says Peeren. The studio is also working on a building for a recycling company made from building waste and Harvest Map, a platform to facilitate re-use of waste in design. Rotterdam |
