Icon asked a dozen experts and practitioners to nominate the people they think are, in some way, shaping the future. The resulting list of global talent is a snapshot that shows how young designers and architects are pushing the boundaries of their disciplines and trying to change the world

"We need to take the role of provocateurs and ask hard, critical questions," says Dimi Constantinides, who founded interdisciplinary, experimental lab BornAnIdea with Dagny Rewera. The duo believes in the power of design to address big issues such as stem cell research and bio-ethics. They describe their practice as "incubating ideas from the wet and edgy margins of architecture, product and interaction-based design", and their work is concerned with "wildly insane" speculations of the near and far future to the "curious, mundane and ordinary" of the present. Both Rewera and Constantinides are graduating from the Royal College of Art this year. Rewera's work, Echoic Vessels, deals with human mortality and memories, while Constantinides is presenting Vast and Troubled Oceans, a work questioning the future of the world's oceans. "We live in exciting times," says Constantinides. "We need to produce more work that opens up the conversation and understanding of fast growing, emerging technologies."
