Artists’ Playground

Tom Dixon: We’ve just moved the studio here from Notting Hill. It was just too small, and it was three times more expensive than the equivalent floorspace here. We were looking at Brick Lane, but because it’s become fashionable it’s almost more expensive further east now.

Tokyo's design week is hugely popular with the European design community. But why? Few designers launch products here - they do that in Milan or Cologne - and the jetlag is crippling.

They're then reporting their findings back to their clients: retailers, manufacturers and - increasingly - architects and designers.
