The 2006 Energy Review found that electronics on standby gobbled up 8% of the UK's total power consumption. And yet we're still having to yank plugs out of the wall in order to actually kill those pernicious little glowing lights, and can't turn off the digibox at all because it has to retune all the channels every time it loses that sweet flow of volts. Off should mean off.
