Michael Young has designed the interior of a cosmetic surgery clinic in Florence. The Skin clinic, which is in a converted 12th-century palazzo, is Young’s second project completed with his wife, Icelandic graphic artist Katrin Olina.
“It’s a female environment, so I tried to make it feel like a beautiful perfume bottle,” says Young. “Florence is a very fashionable city – you get a lot of very wealthy women with a lot of spare time and lots of models going there.”
The result is a muted display of feminine pastels in backlit laminated glass and Corian. In contrast the clinic’s uniforms, commissioned by Young from local designer Elena Chatzipetrou, strike a more severe note, with stylised forms inspired by robots.
