Former RIBA president Angela Brady will chair the first of a series of high-profile panel discussions at the top of the Shard on 17 September.

The event is part of London As I See it, a programme of talks featuring influential thinkers in architecture and design, which The View From The Shard is launching in association with Icon.

The first event will explore what the future holds for Britain's capital. Among the speakers are Roma Agrawal, the engineer who designed the foundations and spire for the Shard, who will champion the role of the engineer in London's future development; Leo Hollis, author of Cities Are Good for You, who will consider the impact of tall buildings and how the invention of the passenger lift has transformed the landscape of our cities; and Liza Fior, founder of Muf Architects, who will discuss innovative design in London's public spaces, in line with the practice's work in Hackney Wick, Mile End and Whitechapel.

Against a backdrop of 40-mile views across London, each speaker will talk for 20 minutes, before taking questions from the audience of 100.

Post-script:

Two of the three talks have now been published as podcasts click below to listen:

- Roma Agrawal: Skyscrapers and lifts to the moon

- Leo Hollis: Our messy, social human city
