Adjaye Associates, Cullinan Studio among the high-profile team working on consultation on future of Grenfell Tower estate
A team of high-profile architects including Adjaye Associates, Cullinan Studio, Levitt Bernstein, Maccreanor Lavington, Murray John Architects and Penoyre & Prasad have began working on a consultation to generate ideas to regenerate the Lancaster West Estate, the area of London where Grenfell Tower is located.
The team of practices will work with landscape architects Andy Sturgeon Design and consultants Twinn Sustainability Innovation, as well as the local community to produce a ‘resident-led’ strategy for the future of the estate.
Each of the practices is focusing on an area of the estate’s other blocks to generate and ‘ideas book of design ideas, resident feedback and proposals for early projects’ for each building.
Though the work will not directly include Grenfell Tower, where 71 people lost their lives in a fatal fire in June 2017, the consultation will help determine how the area will be renovated for the remaining blocks and residents.
Due at the end of March, this initial consultation will help the Lancaster West Residents’ Association, the UK Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, select architects and consultants to take the project forward.
Grenfell Tower itself is currently subject to a public enquiry to determine its future.
