New store by Sameep Padora & Associates in Mumbai 10.06.09

At first sight it looks like parts of giant Panton chairs have invaded the Mumbai store Creo in fashionable Kemps Corner, Mumbai. It is an architectural intervention by local practice Sameep Padora & Associates, designed to create intimate spaces within the 1000sq ft store.

Inspired by the swaying of a woman's hips on the catwalk, the architectural interior is split over two levels. A wave-shaped structure starts from the ground floor and continues through to the mezzanine level dissecting what would have been a square space into fluid pockets of intimacy.

The structure is made up of a steel frame which was manufactured and bent into shape off site. After installation, resin panels were moulded directly onto the frame. A filler and application of spray paint then created the now-seamless surface.

These continuous curved screens wrap around the clothing in semi-dome shapes, separating specially designed clothing racks within pod-like units.
