Reality as we know it is finished. Welcome to reality 2.0 – where the internet is ubiquitous, and the world is forested with information.

Review: Ground Control 16 October 2009

Anna Minton’s book about regeneration, crime and urban policy will make anyone who cares about the future of British cities very angry indeed.
The AT&T Performing Arts Centre has opened in Dallas. The $354 million centre includes the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House by Foster & Partners and REX/OMA’s Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre among its facilities.
Destruction was preservation at the new home of the Museum of Design and Fashion, or MUDE, in Lisbon. Ricardo Carvalho & Joana Vilhena Arquitectos took a 1950s bank in the historic centre of the city and sandblasted it to within an inch of its life.

October Diary 08 October 2009

October is in full swing and we have several dates to add to your diary. 14 October is the date for Icon’s first one-day symposium Icon Minds. On the same day Art & Design London opens its doors here in London, followed by David Chipperfield’s exhibition at the Design Museum a week later.

To celebrate the London Design Festival icon magazine gave away £16,000 worth of contemporary furniture at 100% Design. Over 20,000 people registered for the prize draw and we selected the winning name on the last day of the festival.
One of our favourite exhibitions during the London Design Festival was Parallel Projects’s Three Yet One.
The design duo Committee has opened a charming cafe in Deptford. It premiered for the London Design Festival but will remain open after the event.
Benjamin Hubert’s contribution to 100% Design was impressive to say the least. His display A Year In The Making featured ten products designed in the past year, all of which are now in production with leading manufacturers like Ercol and De la Espada.
Hidden behind an inconspicuous black door on Kingsland Road, London’s quietest star designer is giving over half of his recently opened shop to a humble display of jugs, jars and pitchers.
Designer Max Lamb continues his favourite pastime – slicing out seats from boulders to make chairs and cutting stones in half to make coffee tables – for an exhibition at Johnson Trading Gallery, showing in London for the first time.
Amsterdam-based designer Jair Straschnow is showing a collection of furniture at the Aram Gallery during the London Design Festival.
The flatpack Ply stool is a collaboration between furniture designer Michael Marriot and fashion brand Paul Smith for the London Design Festival.
