icon 075/ September 2009

Jasper Morrison is the man behind the minimal cover of icon 075. In our interview, the reclusive Morrison gives magazines a hard time, explains why most people don't trust design and describes the quest for the perfect fork. Meanwhile, the more extrovert Cooper Union building by Morphosis give Manhattan's architecture scene a smack around the chops, and the gregarious young designers of Brussels show us how you can cram a vibrant creative scene into a single warehouse.

Crammed into our conversation this month are radical architect François Roche, graphic novelist Warren Ellis and blogger Geoff Manaugh - sci-fi, ghosts, Kinder eggs, the apocalypse, cannibal guerrillas, they cover it all. In news, we bring you the highlights from graduate shows at the Royal College of Art, ECAL, Eindhoven and New Designers, summer pavilions from MOS Architects and SANAA, and a suburban bacteria farm. In review, there's Radical Nature at the Barbican, a radical office chair by Konstantin Grcic, radical urbanism from China Miéville and a radical rethink of futurism at the Tate. It's all in the September issue of icon, in shops now.
