The Icon Design Trail is a highly influential guide, featuring only the best events and shows during the London Design Festival (LDF). It is the only independent guide to the LDF and it has become the essential accessory for festival visitors since its inception in 2004. Compiled by Icon's respected editorial team, the guide will help you to prioritise your time, whether you're in town for the day or for the duration of the programme, giving you its view on the festival's most important and must-see events. 100,000 copies of the Icon Design Trail are circulated throughout the festival. A copy can be picked up at participating events, or free with the October 2012 issue of Icon magazine. Icon magazine would like to thank our sponsor VELUX. |

In 2007, VELUX joined forces with Foster + Partners to develop a skylight system which is 100% modular, making it easy to specify, highly adaptable and comprehensive in detail. The result of this collaboration was the VELUX Modular Skylights system. VELUX Modular Skylights are factory produced to a range of standard sizes, which can be combined in limitless combinations for complete design flexibility. The installation method allows the same standard units to be installed in a variety of configurations including longlights, ridgelights and atria. The pultruded composite framing material and low energy glazing also offer thermal performance amongst the very best on the skylight market. VELUX Modular Skylights will have its official UK launch during LDF at 100% Design, giving you the opportunity to see it firsthand. Come and visit stand E211 for a sneak peek or to talk to one of their specifications support team. Furthermore, Stephan Verkuijlen, associate partner at Foster + Partners and Brent Moller of VELUX, will introduce the design of the product and explore their co-creation at 16:00 on Friday 21st September, in the main auditorium. Afterwards, Stephan and Brent will be available at a 'Meet the Designers' drinks reception from 17:30, where they'll be happy to discuss specific projects or general product queries. This year sees the inaugural Icon Awards, a chance to recognise the best in architecture and design in Britain and across the world. The awards have ten categories, covering all aspects of the industry: from high-profile buildings to emerging talent, and from interiors to the latest technology. They will also have a special focus on socially responsible and ethical projects, and the judges will be leading names and industry experts. In addition, there will be one very special award, Icon of the year. This award is all about what the Icon reader thinks. Icon has nominated 10 architects and designers for their outstanding contribution to the industry and now we invite you to choose a winner. Simply head to 100% Design at Earls Court and cast your vote. There will be a live voting counter so make sure your favourite doesn't miss out. The trophy for the awards is designed by Phil Cuttance using his Faceture technique. All will be revealed when the January edition of Icon, The Awards Issue, goes on sale on 7 December 2012. |
